Individuals

In the EU, the possibility for patients to directly access their medical records in digital format is still limited, impeding a rapid and seamless exchange of individuals’ healthcare data when needed, e.g., with relatives or other patients, among clinicians and healthcare centres.

The added value of personal data management in healthcare

In compliance with the new right of “data portability” set out in the GDPR, MHMD allows patients to keep a digital copy of their medical records into a cloud-based wallet, namely the personal data account (PDA), along with the possibility to aggregate any IoT- and mobile app-data related to health, fitness and well-being. The PDA can be hosted on Dropbox, Google Drive or any other cloud-based data management service.

This resource is available from anywhere, at any time, for receiving medical care or other personal use. The PDA, however, is also meant to make data available for biomedical research and share it in exchange for services or reward. Through dynamic consent, individuals have the possibility to customise consent preferences according to what type of data is requested, by whom and for which purpose, or to define other options such as post-mortem usage of data or the “right to be forgotten”. Thanks to the blockchain secure infrastructure, implemented by smart contracts, data transactions are always traceable, compliant with the GDPR and the specific user-defined consent settings.

How does it work?

  1. individuals can DOWNLOAD and register on the MHMD application.
  2. Individuals can sync their data from various sources (hospitals, IoT, mobile applications, etc.) on a cloud service of choice.
  3. Individuals can set their consent options through the mobile app, regulating data access from third parties. Individuals can decide allowed data usage purposes, for how long data will be available, what type of institution (public or private) can access, and much more.
  4. Individuals can monitor the usage of their data and adjust consent settings over time.
